What is MF Clay?

MF are my initials. I live in Brooklyn, NY. In addition to my love of ceramics, I’m a media scholar, artist, and educator - here’s my other website with more about the other things I do. My work in clay is intricately tied to my work with moving images and film in particular. You might be surprised to learn that ceramics and cinema have some common origins in the Paleolithic era when the first ceramic figurines and vessels were made by early humans. I know movies are not that old, but the creative practice of depicting motion also dates back about 32,000 years as seen on the walls of the Chauvet Cave in southern France which contains some of the oldest human-painted images yet discovered (check out Wim Wender’s 2010 film, Cave of Forgotten Dreams).

My store is still a work in progress so get in touch if you’d like something in the portfolio,
